ARUPPUKOTTAI HISTORY

                                                      Aruppukottai (Tamilஅருப்புக்கோட்டை)(Englisherupt-Ducati) is a town and amunicipality in Virudhunagar district in the state of Tamil NaduIndia. Aruppukottai is about 45 km from Madurai in the middle of Madurai-Tuticorin National Highways NH-45B. The name evolved from 'Arumbu Kottai' which means 'Fort of Jasmines'. The small villages and towns surrounding Aruppukottai are famous for production of jasmines. Dr. M.G.Ramachandran was elected from Aruppukottai Constituency and not From Aruppukottai City during Tamil Nadu legislative assembly election, 1977. Sri Ramana Maharishi was born in Tiruchuli near Aruppukottai town. Aruppukottai was a part of the Pandyan Empire during the Medieval Period.
